There’s a spiritual solution to perfectionism:
There’s a spiritual solution to every problem which means there is a spiritual solution to overcoming PERFECTIONISM!
All spiritual seekers are said to be perfectionists. All Lightworkers and Starseeds are said to be perfectionists. If you are any of these things you will probably have perfectionism pretty bad. Being all of these things…I sympathise deeply!
I’ve been a perfectionist for as long as I can remember. I’ve always tried to be perfect in everything I do. I am definitely the dotting your I’s and crossing your T’s type of girl. I always make sure that every little detail is taken care of.
When I was young if I made a mistake and I didn’t have an eraser… boy was there trouble… (IN MY HEAD). I would immediately want to tear out the page and start all over again!
A little over the top right?
You bet!
But the truth was I always felt a sense of pride calling myself a perfectionist.
If you relate in anyway to being a perfectionist and you’ve tried all the things to overcome it, let me share with you my spiritual solution to overcoming perfectionism.
The spiritual solution to overcoming perfectionism:
Okay.
Are you ready?
The spiritual solution to overcoming perfectionism is shadow work!
I know I know… this is the thing we don’t often want to deal with, but shadow work is an incredibly powerful spiritual tool that as Lightworkers we must learn to incorporate.
To be a lightworker in the world, we have to embrace our shadows. We have to embrace this concept of the light and the dark. We all have shadows, it is part of the human experience.
As Lightworkers we want to be the light and radiate the light but in order to do so we must learn how to incorporate the shadow into our lives in order to be our fullest and highest selves. There are some great teachings and wisdom that lay dormant in all our shadows. Don’t ignore it.
What is shadow work?
The term ‘shadow work’ was first introduced by psychologist Carl Jung. He described it as the unconscious and disowned parts of our personalities that we keep hidden away. When hidden they become our shadow. Our shadows are our fears, our doubts, our limiting beliefs.
You can never get rid of the shadow, it is just a case of learning how to incorporate it into our lives. It is about learning how to transcend the shadow because the truth is there will always be new fears as we grow and move through life and new unidentified aspects of our shadow will rise to the surface.
Being a Lightworker is simply not possible without journeying the depths and facing our own shadows. Learning to incorporate your own shadow regularly is fundamental for all Lightworkers.
What is your perfectionism trying to teach you?
Perfectionism is masking an underlying fear that we all have. Sometimes no matter how often we try to let it go, we still revert back to this debilitating habit. Why? Because deep down there is something that is holding onto us, something we haven’t quite explored or dealt with.
I love this quote about perfectionism:
“Perfectionism is just a high-end haute couture version of fear, perfectionism is just fear in fancy shoes and a mink coat pretending to elegant when actually it’s just terrified.” Elizabeth Gilbert.
Remember the problem is perfectionism…but the root cause is fear.
When it comes to fear and perfectionism I have come to understand through my own journey and working with other Lightworkers and Starseeds that there are three different types of fears at play that I want to share with you to help you identify which fear you may have that is disguising itself as perfectionism.
- Fear of judgement – What will others think of you doing your spiritual work in the world? If you don’t put something out there, no one can judge you right?
- Fear of failure – What if that thing I put out there fails? If you keep perfecting something you can’t fail right?
- Fear of being your best self – What if you aren’t ready to be all you are capable of just yet? If you keep working on something, making it just perfect… you can stay in your comfort zone that little bit longer..perfecting away.
I want you to consider which one resonates with you the most. Perhaps it is all three, perhaps just one or two, that’s fine.
Get to the root problem, explore that fear and learn how to best overcome it because until you do, you will just keep perfecting, perfecting and perfecting.
Two things that will help you with your perfectionism:
- Give yourself permission that 80% is your new perfect. 80% is when you say I am done. 80% is certainly good enough for you to move forward and move onto the next task. Done is better than perfect. You can always go back and perfect, but you have to keep moving forward.
- Grab a journal! Get writing. See what comes up. Try and get to the bottom of your fear. What’s really going on here? This will serve you in the long run. The deeper you understand your fear the more you will see the many ways that perfectionism is blocking you.
If we continue to hold on to these fears we will just continue to perfect and perfect and perfect.
Now you know the spiritual solution to perfectionism is shadow work, you have a great spiritual tool to help you overcome this. We often think it is easier to just keep perfecting than it is to deal with the fear. But this often isn’t the case. This spiritual solution to perfectionism will allow you to unlock the real reasons behind your perfectionism.
If you don’t get a handle on your perfectionism it can lead to frustration, feelings of disappointment or lack of fulfilment and maybe even lead to burnout and nobody wants to experience those feelings.
Don’t let your perfectionism get the better of you.
Don’t let it slow you down because you will never end up getting your work out there in the world. So whether it is a fear of being judged, fear of failure or fear of having to be your best self you need to deal with this first and then your perfectionism will be a WHOLE lot easier to handle.
